Fossilized Mammoth Tusk

Project Type

Photography

Date

April 2023

This little belt knife was patterned after J. Neilson's "Dart" with some of my own adjustments to the pattern to make it unique. It is a 3 steel laminate damascus that I twisted. The original scale was some burl wood we brought back from Australia but unfortunately it started to separate around some of the burls. This sometimes happens in the stabilizing process. So I had to replace them and I decided to use some mammoth tusk we had. It is fossilized tusk that has been stabilized and it is not the easiest material to work with. I love a challenge!
